The criminal/suspense aspect of this book intrigued me and made me want to reach the end to find out the typical "whodunit". I loved all the characters MOST of the time and so I will definitely continue with this series (although I have yet to even finish the first book of the original series). Having said all that, there were a few annoying bits, namely, Mason's attitude (this seemed to be written in for no other reasons than not wanting all the men to instantly love Casper), the detective lying and hurting Casper (for someone who likes another that's not the right attitude to adapt), why was Casper so adamant for the team not to know anything about her despite wanting to know about them (hypocritical much) and lastly what's the story between Knox and Casper (this seemed to be drawn out for the writer to get a 5 book series where it can clearly be a trilogy what with the fast burn and all).Still recommend to others. I've got mixed -but mostly positive - feelings about this book. I love the uniqueness of the main character (we don't see many series that have characters with psychic abilities) and the premise being based around a supernatural branch of the federal government. It is well written like we come to expect with this author and I mostly feel the relationship development that's happening here. But I did have some personal issues with some things that felt rushed or didn't quite make sense.--- MAJOR DETAIL SPOILERS BELOW ---Let me open by saying that relationship development is usually my main make-or-break for a story as I'm much more willing to let plot holes go if I'm happy with a well developed relationship. Firstly, everyone really liked Casper and were overly concerned with her from pretty much the beginning (even that alpha a**hole) and made it feel less real to me because they didn't even know her. I felt like this could have been a bit more gradual to lend it a bit more authenticity.The first time we see some steamy action it's because you were so terrified you were on adrenaline overload and one of the guys suggests option1, option2, or option3 we can get it on and she jumps on it. I'm definitely not opposed to this at all, it's just seemed like the author wanted these two characters to do the dirty and it feels like a cop out or reason to just make it happen; now the second person made perfect sense and it was absolutely awesome. What also made this situation also seem not to fit is Casper relives people's deaths and violent assaults when she touches them, so how could someone handing here a pen cause a pure frozen reaction with an over the top adrenaline overload? All this contributed to being pulled out of the story when we were having some good momentum.The other big jarring, pull-me-out-of-the-story moment was them pulling all these strings to get her into the FSID and not even really talking to her about it minus a single time that is meant to, I guess, plant the seed? All from pretty much the first moment they meet her. We know she will eventually will join the team, I just felt it was going though the motions to get there rather than actually making it feel natural. And then everyone being downcast and sad when they think she's not coming and not having really made an argument for why they wanted her on the team. It didn't jive with the internal feelings that were harped on the whole book but was probably done to enhance the surprise when "oh my gosh! she's here!"The epilogue sets up the next story but was not really a surprise because so many blatant "hints" were dropped. While I don't really have complaints about the plot, there were several moments where obvious hints, like this one, were dropped that made the plot predictable or pointed your focus to an area that the author wanted to make mysterious.--- END SPOILERS ---The instalove and obvious plot hints (for both where it was going and to create mystery about certain things) I probably won't add it to my personal collection unless things can be fleshed out a bit more and feel less rushed. All that said, it is well written and I will be reading the next book to see how it goes.
